Travelling to Aveiro

Driving

Driving southward on A1 motorway, exit at “Aveiro (A25)” and proceed. There are then two exits to the city: “Aveiro Norte” (North exit) and, a few miles ahead, “Aveiro”. If you’re heading for the University of Aveiro, the latter is advisable (see City map) and you will arrive to a roundabout where you should take the direction “Universidade de Aveiro”, then turn right at the traffic lights. You will find yourself in “Rua da Pêga”, located between the University and Ria de Aveiro (see the map of Campus de Santiago).

Driving northward on A1 motorway, exit at “Aveiro-Sul | Águeda” (exit 15) and then drive along EN235 following “Aveiro” indications until you reach the university campus, which you will see as you enter in the city on your left-hand side.

By train

There are several options to reach “Aveiro” by train, thus our best advice is to click here to check on train timetables and prices, searching based on origin and destination; you can also buy the tickets online. Aveiro railway station is located at a 20 minutes walking distance or a 5 minutes taxi ride from the University campus. You can also use the bus (green line), departing at regular intervals from outside the railway station. It might be easier to print the map of Campus de Santiago and indicate the place where they should drop you off.

By plane

The closest airport is Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport in Oporto, located some 70 kms to the north of Aveiro. The trip between the airport and the railway station with direct rail connection to Aveiro (Porto-Campanhã) can be done by taxi (around 20€; 30 min). You can alternatively use the metro, which has a terminal at the airport (Z4 ticket for 2€; 32 min). See above for info on reaching Aveiro driving (if your option is to rent a car at the airport) or by train.

Humberto Delgado International Airport in Lisbon is located 250 kms to the south of Aveiro. The simplest connection to Aveiro is by train from Lisboa-Oriente railway station, which you can reach by taxi (around 10€; 10 min) or by metro, which has a terminal at the airport through the red line (1.31€ each metro journey). See above for info on reaching Aveiro driving (if your option is to rent a car at the airport) or by train.

Faro Airport is also an alternative, although further away from Aveiro. The closest train station is 6 Km away from the Airport in Faro city center, which you can reach by taxi (11-16 €; 10 min), by bus (circuit 16; 2.25 €; 20 min) or by private transfer (20 € with prior web booking; 10 min). See above for info on reaching Aveiro driving (if your option is to rent a car at the airport) or by train.
